Peer Support Specialist- Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Job Description: 

Meridian is seeking a Peer Support Specialist for MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment).  This position is responsible for meeting with individuals engaging with Meridian’s Suboxone Clinics in both Haywood and Transylvania Counties. The MAT Peer Support Specialist will work closely with the RECs and Suboxone prescribers in Brevard and Waynesville to support the needs of individuals currently in services with Meridian, or engaging in services for the first time. This individual will also provide support to other programs in Haywood, primarily ERT and SAIOP as needed.  In particular, this individual will be responsible for providing education to clients about Suboxone, helping them understand protocols, and identifying the most appropriate psychosocial therapy component that corresponds with their particular treatment needs.  This individual will need to feel comfortable explaining to people the importance of a therapy component to treatment in addition to medication, and will need to be skilled in motivational interviewing.

The MAT Peer will provide a combination of individual and group support to clients in various stages of recovery and will need to collaborate closely with prescribers with respect to each client’s needs. This person may also be responsible for monitoring compliance, such as requesting individuals to come in for call back appointment and monitoring of drug screens.  Individual must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist in North Carolina, or working towards this credential.  Applicants must also have, or be working towards their CSAC and have demonstrated experience of working with individuals struggling with substance use disorders.  The MAT Peer Support Specialist will report to the Substance Use Services Manager.
